With 47 goals scored in the MLS season, the San Jose Earthquakes have proven to be one of the most explosive offensive forces in the Western Conference.
The stats place them just behind conference leaders San Diego FC, who have netted 48 goals, only one more than the Earthquakes.
Both teams rank among the top three highest-scoring sides across the Western and Eastern Conferences of MLS, with only Inter Miami ahead of them, having scored 49 goals so far.
Their sharp attacking lines have helped secure vital points. San Diego currently sits atop the Western Conference with 46 points, while San Jose trails in 10th place with 20 points.
However, while San Jose shines up front, their Achilles’ heel lies in defense. The Earthquakes have conceded 44 goals, a worrying number compared to the 32 allowed by San Diego, who have managed to strike a much better balance between offense and defense.
San Jose’s defensive fragility has cost them crucial points throughout the campaign and could jeopardize their playoff hopes if the issue isn’t resolved. With more stability at the back, San Jose could become a serious contender for San Diego.
Leading the charge for each team are Josef Martinez and Chicho Arango, San Jose’s top scorer with 21 goals, and Ander Dreyers, who leads San Diego with 16 goals this season.
The strikers have played a key role in keeping their teams in the race and establishing them as offensive powerhouses in the Western Conference.
