The Leagues Cup is moving forward, and three MLS teams are already stuck with no chance of advancing to the next round: San Diego FC, Atlanta United, and Houston Dynamo.
The biggest disappointment of the tournament has been San Diego FC, the current leader of the MLS Western Conference with 46 points and second overall in the league standings, just behind Philadelphia (Eastern Conference). San Diego has not shown its best form in the Leagues Cup and has failed to compete against the Mexican clubs.
San Diego, which is playing its inaugural MLS season, surprised many with a winning streak, strong attacking power, and solid defense. However, against the Mexican teams, they failed to earn a single point and ended up third from last in the Leagues Cup standings.
As a result, the Southern California team has no chance of advancing to the second round—just like Atlanta United and Houston Dynamo, who also failed to earn points in the tournament’s first two match days and now sit in second-to-last and last place, respectively.
