Real Madrid announced on Monday, through an official statement, the end of Xabi Alonso’s tenure as head coach of the first team, a decision taken by mutual agreement between the club and the coach. The club highlighted the “affection and admiration” of the Madrid fan base for Alonso, whom it described as a club legend, and thanked him and his coaching staff for their work and dedication over these months.
Alonso’s departure comes one day after the 3–2 defeat to their rivals in the Super Cup final, a result that accelerated the conclusion of a seven-month spell in charge. The former midfielder took over in July of this year and leaves the team in second place in LaLiga with 45 points, three behind leaders Barcelona, who have 48.
On the international stage, Alonso ends his time at Real Madrid with the team in seventh place in the Champions League, while in the Copa del Rey the club currently sits eighth. Despite the uneven results, the club подчеркed that Alonso consistently represented the institution’s values.
Real Madrid also announced that Álvaro Arbeloa will be the new head coach of the first team. Arbeloa had been in charge of Castilla since June 2025 and has developed his entire coaching career within Real Madrid’s academy since 2020. As a player, he was a defender and was part of one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.
