Approximately 50,000 fans attended the match between Mexico and the Dominican Republic, held tonight at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, marking the opening of the Gold Cup.
The attendance figure registered today at SoFi Stadium represents a 28.6% drop compared to the previous edition of the tournament and the Copa América, when the stadium hosted over 70,000 fans.
Mexican media outlets echoed the decline in ticket sales, highlighting street interviews where many attributed the drop to recent ICE raids and the climate of unrest sparked by protests that have led to clashes between police, national guards, and demonstrators over the past seven days, prompting local authorities to impose a curfew.
One of the voices who pointed out the low turnout was David Faitelson, host and commentator for TUDN, who addressed the issue both during the live broadcast and on his social media accounts.
No pinta bien.

It remains to be seen how ticket sales will perform for the upcoming matches of a tournament already facing an uphill battle to attract fans, as it competes directly with MLS games and the FIFA Club World Cup.
