Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio is facing legal proceedings along with three other youth players from the club in a court in Gran Canaria, Spain. They are accused of distributing a sexually explicit video involving a minor. This news has spread like wildfire across the internet and has become one of the top global trending searches on Google today.
A judge will decide whether the footballer will be acquitted or receive a sentence, which under Spanish law could lead to up to five years in prison.
As of 10 a.m., searches related to “Asencio” were among the top trending global topics on Google Search and were particularly prominent in the United States, Spain, Uruguay, and India.
So far, preliminary investigations have indicated that Asencio did not participate in the recording of the video. The teammates accused of filming the footage are Andrés García, Ferrán Ruiz, and Juan Rodríguez.
The player has denied any involvement in the recording of the video through an official statement released today on his Instagram account.

The incident in question took place on June 15, 2023, at a holiday resort in Gran Canaria, where the three accused were staying as guests. It is alleged that the video was recorded during sexual encounters with two young women, one of whom was 16 years old. The video was later reportedly shared and distributed to other individuals.
The charge against Asencio is that after receiving the video recorded by his teammates, he showed it to at least one other person, which constitutes the distribution of child pornography under Spanish law.
